Pride Sasser
Known in the home furnishings industry, Pride Sasser leverages his education in Sculpture and Design to inform his innovative and eclectic style. His global portfolio of work extends across all major categories of home furnishings and accessories.
Pride joined the design department of Masco after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture. At the time, Maco was a holding company for furniture manufacturers such as Henredon, Drexel Heritage, Maitland Smith and Universal.
Relocating to the Philippines in 1989, Pride worked as a designer for Paul Maitland-Smith at the Maitland-Smith factory. In 1995 he opened his own design and manufacturing firm in Cebu, Philippines. Pride continues to design and produce products for high-end furniture companies such as Century Furniture, Baker Interiors, Henredon Furniture, EJ Victor, Ralph Lauren, Maitland Smith, Artistica, and Ethan Allen.
Materiality is a key area of innovation for Pride. Looking beyond traditional finishes normally used in the furniture industry, he incorporates materials used in boats, architecture, skyscrapers, and the oil industry. Motivated by a desire to minimize his impact on the environment, Pride has researched ways to sustainably mold, cast and finish the high-tech lightweight concretes used in the building industry to recreate a wide range of period pieces from 1500 to the 1960’s.
Born and raised on a farm in North Carolina, Pride enjoys antique hunting, art, farming, and outdoor fire cooking (especially North Carolina BBQ).
